By using Insulinus, you agree to the following terms of use.
Local Storage Policy

Insulinus is a web-based application that uses local storage and similar technologies to store data on your device.
This policy explains what we store, why we store it, and your rights under data protection laws such as the
EU ePrivacy Directive and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
What We Store
Insulinus uses local storage to store the following types of data on your device only:
- Blood sugar data (from Nightscout, if enabled) or from manual entries
- Insulin doses and carbohydrate entries
- Meal descriptions and nutrition estimates
- Food images
- Your Strava access status (if connected)
- Your app settings and preferences
- Consent to this policy
No cookies or trackers are used for advertising or analytics.
Why We Store It
We use local storage for the following purposes:
- To ensure that your health data and preferences remain available between sessions
- To provide accurate insulin dose calculations based on your inputs
- To enable optional integrations (e.g., Strava, Nightscout) if you activate them
- To remember your consent to this policy
This is part of the core functionality of the app.
Data Security and Access
- Data stored in local storage never leaves your device unless you explicitly choose to sync it (e.g., to Nightscout).
- No third-party services have direct access to your local storage.
- Images are temporarily sent to our backend and processed by OpenAI, but are deleted immediately after analysis.
Consent and Your Rights
By continuing to use the Insulinus web app, you agree to the use of local storage as described in this policy.
Under the GDPR, you have the right to:
- Access the data stored on your device
- Request deletion of stored data
- Revoke your consent at any time by deleting all your data on the settings page, clearing your browser's storage, or by contacting us

Delete Stored Data
You can clear the stored data at any time by navigating to:
- "Settings" → "Data Management" → "Delete All Data"
Note: Disabling or deleting local storage may limit or break core functionality in the app.
Privacy Policy
How Data Is Collected
Blood Sugar Data (Nightscout)
- The user must manually enter a Nightscout URL and an access token with the appropriate access rights.
- Blood sugar data is retrieved every minute (if Nightscout integration is enabled).
Strava Integration
Strava is a registered trademark of Strava, Inc. Insulinus uses the Strava API but is not endorsed or certified by Strava.
- Users must explicitly authorize Insulinus to access their Strava data using the official OAuth flow.
- If enabled, Insulinus reads only the latest Strava activity.
- The Strava athlete ID is temporarily stored on the Insulinus backend while the user remains connected.
- If access is revoked or the account is deleted, Strava data is removed within 5 days.
User-Entered Data
Data entered manually by users is stored exclusively on the user's device.
OpenAI Integration
- Images are sent to the Insulinus backend and forwarded to OpenAI for the sole purpose of estimating nutritional content.
- Images are not stored and are deleted immediately after analysis.
- No personally identifiable information is shared with OpenAI.
Data Retention
Insulinus retains data for up to 5 days or a minimum of the most recent 100 entries, whichever is longer.
If no new data is entered, the system retains the last 100 entries.

- Carbohydrate, protein, and fat data
- Text-based food descriptions
- Photos of food
Purpose of Data Collection
To support accurate insulin dose calculation based on food intake and physical activity.
Data Sharing and Third Parties
- Insulinus does not sell or share your data with any third party.

Users may choose to sync their insulin and carbohydrate data with their own Nightscout system.
If enabled, data will be sent to the Nightscout account configured in settings.
